These hides are LARGE and EXTRA LARGE premium grade Argentine & Colombian cowhides that will range from 7' x 8' to 8' x 8' in size. (If you see a hide in this large or x-large category that you really like, we can cut it down to almost any size for a small fee.)
Even though Argentine & Colombian cowhides can look the same as the more expensive, better quality Brazilian cowhides, they generally are not as thick or as supple. In addition, Argentine & Colombian hides often will have more of the natural marks, scrapes, and even an occasional small hole, cut or bare spot present in all cowhides. These are not defects, but simply indications that one is dealing with natural animal products.
They are ideal for those who want the "look and feel" of a cowhide but just don't want to pay more for premium Brazilian cowhides.
Concerning sizes...since Colombian hides do not taper from top to bottom as do Argentine and Brazilian cowhides, they are much wider at the bottom. As a result, a Colombian hide with the same width and length dimensions will have a much larger square foot area than either an Argentine or Brazilian cowhide.
As an example, based on square footage, a 6 x 7 ft Colombian could easily be classified as an XL cowhide whereas a 6 x 7 ft Argentine or Brazilian hide would only be classified as a large cowhide.
Rest assured that every cowhide rug we sell is of the highest quality. Nicer
cowhide rugs simply do not exist. Most of our cow hide products come from either Argentina or Brazil, the two countries that unquestionably produce the finest quality
cow hides in the world. The more supple Brazilian cowhides are best for natural cow hide rugs while stiffer Argentine cowhide is best for a designer patchwork
